Progesterone, an HIV Replication Inhibitor

Already we have addressed progesterone's role as an HIV entry inhibitor as it downregulates chemokine receptor expression on activated lymphocytes, granted a sufficient progesterone concentration at the time of CD4 lymphocyte activation. Another study discusses placental progesterone's inhibition of replication due to its inhibition of tumor necrosis factor, TNF.
