Glucocorticoid Depletion of Glutathione

Similarly to lymphocytes, the brain and nervous system are also directly affected by immune deficiency. Since glutathione level depletion plays a major role in disease progression, the finding that brain cell glutathione levels are depleted by glucocorticoids, and hence, by cortisol, may shed light on the degenerative process taking place in AIDS dementia.
